Key Points for Refractory Brick Masonry Construction

The laying quality of refractory bricks directly affects the stability, heat resistance and service life of furnace linings. Common lining defects including flame leakage, cracking and spalling are mainly caused by non-standard construction. This passage summarizes core laying specifications for reference.

 

1. Material Selection and Base Treatment

Select matched refractory bricks and mortar conforming to furnace operating conditions. Adopt same-system supporting materials to avoid high-temperature lining corrosion. Clean and level the base surface before construction. Discard damaged and deformed bricks, with intact brick surfaces facing the furnace chamber.

 

2. Standard Laying Technology

Lay refractory bricks with staggered joints to eliminate through joints and ensure masonry integrity. Fully and densely fill brick joints with mortar without voids. Adjust bricks only with wooden or rubber mallets to prevent damage.

 

3. Construction Detail Control

Disperse half-bricks and broken bricks evenly instead of centralized use. Stepped sloped joints shall be adopted for construction interruption and rework; straight joints are forbidden. Symmetrical and uniform locking brick installation on arches and curved walls prevents structural loosening and collapse.

 

4. Finished Product Curing

Furnace heating and operation are prohibited immediately after construction. Sufficient curing time ensures mortar solidification and bonding. Protect masonry from impact and vibration, and timely clean residual mortar and trim joints to reduce flue gas erosion.
